Beyerl, Evelyn A. (19 February 1930 – 27 June 2022)

Evelyn A. Beyerl, age 92, Colby, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, June 27, 2022, at VitaCare Living in Abbotsford under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice.

She was born February 19, 1930, in the town of Beaver to Joseph and Emma (Slaby) Shefchik. After graduating from Loyal High School in 1948, Evelyn secured a job doing clerical work for Roddis Lumber &Veneer in Marshfield. On June 21, 1951, Evelyn married Peter John Beyerl at St. Anthony’s Church in Loyal. Together they raised twelve children and farmed in the town of Colby until 1981 and then resided in Colby. Once all the children were in school, Evelyn worked for S & K Dairy Equipment in Colby and Figi’s in Marshfield performing clerical duties. After retiring, she volunteered at the Colby Elementary School through the STEP program.

In her past time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. The many quilts, tied blankets, Afghans, and doilies made for every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild are sure to be treasured.

Throughout the years, Evelyn enjoyed dancing the polka and waltz, playing cards, doing word searches, playing board games, and an occasional trip to the casino. She was a member of the Sandhill Homemakers Club and local bowling league. In addition to being a Packers fan, Evelyn was ever present at special life events and sporting activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She always loved getting together and seeing everyone at family functions. In her words, she “loved to see all the little kids come, not only the little ones, the big ones, too.” Most important was her faith and family. Evelyn was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Her most memorable event was taking a trip to Rome to see the Pope.

Evelyn is survived by twelve children: John, Medford; Joan (Mike) Pierner, Suamico; Tom (Diane), Wausau; Kathy (Les) Willner, Colby; Pat (Polly), Eau Claire; Patsy (Don Trefethen), Colorado Springs, CO; Barb (Kent) Palmerton, Colby; Caryl (Brad) Kops, Unity; Cheryl, Abbotsford; Mary (Wayne) Jicinsky, Colby; Mike (Jenny Toboyek), Mosinee; Dennis “Bubba” (Renelyn), Colby. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by Peter John in 1996, grandson Aaron Jicinsky, daughter-in-law Debbie Beyerl, her parents, and her siblings and their spouses: Irene (Jim) Bertz, Frances (Lillian) Shefchik, and Leo (Marie) Shefchik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Abbotsford. Father Timothy Oudenhoven will officiate. Interment to be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
