Krueger, Roger (29 Nov 1948 – 24 May 2022)
Roger Krueger, age 73, died May 24, 2022, at a Madison hospital, of
complications due to injuries suffered in a fall at his home a few days earlier.
Roger was born on November 29, 1948, in Colby, to Arnold and Lois (Huhn)
Krueger. He attended Colby schools and graduated from Colby High School in 1967.
Roger joined the army after high school and served in Germany and Vietnam. He
was called home from the military after three years of service to help on the
family farm after his father, Arnold, lost his hand in a farming accident. Roger
later moved to Madison and worked for Hooper Construction for several years.
In 1985, Roger was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident and suffered a
traumatic brain injury. After spending months in the hospital and rehab, he was
able to return to living independently and working in the Portage area. In 2004,
Roger moved to Infinite Ability, an assisted living facility in Merrimac. Roger
continued to work at Northwoods, Inc. of Wisconsin, a vocational rehabilitation
facility in Portage, until the time of his death. Roger liked staying busy,
collecting junk and puttering in his shop. He also loved to fish, play cards,
and enjoy a beer or two with his friends. He had a great sense of humor and
liked to joke around with everyone he met. Every spring, Roger helped with
harvesting sap and making maple syrup with his family at the Krueger family
sugar shack in Colby.
Roger is survived by his siblings: Russell (Essie) Krueger, Klamath Falls, Ore.,
Gene (Roberta) Krueger, Campbellsport, Faye (Terry) Schraufnagel, Colby, Allen
(Mary) Krueger, Mosinee, Lori (Jeff) Mueller, Abbotsford and George (Kathy
Kenyon) Krueger, Dorchester. Roger is also survived by numerous nieces and
nephews, his fellow residents and staff at Infinite Ability, and co-workers and
co-workers and staff at Northwoods, Inc. of Wisconsin.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lois, a brother, Lyle
Krueger, and sister-in-law, Mary (Russ) Krueger.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering in honor of Roger
to be held on August 20, 2022, at the Colby VFW, 104 N. Division St., Colby,
from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A military honor ceremony to recognize Roger’s service in
the military will take place during the gathering. A private burial will take
place at the Colby Cemetery. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is
