Local Youth Receive Bear Bags for Summer (2022)
Cummins Filtration of Neillsville celebrated the success of some Clark County 4K
and 5K students recently through a community outreach program that provided a
grant to purchase a teddy bear for each student.
By Jesse Heslip
Community outreach means cuddly bear hugs for some Clark County youngsters this
year.
Employees of Cummins Filtration in Neillsville assembled and donated 170 bags to
some local 4K and 5K students who wee graduating and moving on to the next
chapter.
“The workers put together teddy bears, books, certificates and pens in a nice
bag for our 5-year-old kindergarten students to congratulate them for moving up
to first grade,” Neillsville Elementary School Principal Marcy Kunze stated in
an email.
But it wasn’t just Neillsville that was involved; Cummins provided bags for
several area schools.
“In total, we provided 170 bags to area schools. Loyal, Greenwood, Granton,
Owen-Withee and St. John’s all got bags,” said plant administrative assistant
Amanda Hensiak.
The program was created through grants that were approved via a Cummins
Filtration internal community engagement program called Every Employee Every
Community, or EEEC, which revolves around three global priority areas:
education, environment, and equality of opportunity.
Through that program, a local volunteer together with program management created
a proposal and requested a grant. After the grant was approved, local volunteers
ordered supplies and started assembling bags, which led to many smiles in the
area.
Some of the Cummins workers are grandparents and parents, and they put special
bags together for their kindergarten students. Pictured are Neillsville
Elementary Principal Marcy Kunze, Livi Townsend
and Dakota Bryan. Livi’s grandmother, Jessica Vollrath, and Dakota’s father, Ben
Bryan,
made these special gifts for Livi and Dakota. Submitted photos
