Neillsville Police Dept. Welcomes New Officer (Wheatly - 2022)

The Neillsville Police Department has welcomed a new addition to the force. Officer Derek Wheatley (3rd from r) brings with him over five years of experience spanning three different departments. Wheatley is excited to serve the community. A 2017 Northcentral Technical College graduate, he has been preparing for a role as a police officer, since he was a kid. “Well, I’ve wanted to be a police officer as long as I can remember. I think I was about 5 years old when I made up my mind,” Wheatley stated. A longtime deputy with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, he will bring not only experience but a community service mindset with him to Neillsville. “My favorite part about the job is making a positive impact, so I focus on community policing,” he said. Wheatley will be full-time in Neillsville and looks forward to interacting with the community.
