Krahn, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (Golden – 28 October 1981)

The Salem Lutheran Church in the Veefkind area was the setting for the wedding of Linda Schroeder and Walter Krahn on October 28, 1931. The past Sunday friends and relatives gathered at the Krahn home to help them celebrate their golden anniversary.

Linda Schroeder, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schroeder, was born in the Town of Sherman, received her education at the Griffith School and worked at home before her marriage.

Walter Krahn is a native of Milwaukee. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krahn, came to the Veefkind community when he was four-years old. He got his education there and worked on the farm two years after their marriage.

It was 1934 when they moved to Loyal, operated a truck farm and raised chickens. From 1945 to 1965 they raised pheasants for the Sportsman’s Club of which he was a member. They also raised nursery plants and had a greenhouse; the business was known as the Krahn-Schroeder Nursery.

They moved to their present home in Loyal in 1973 and together they were custodians at Trinity Lutheran Church from 1972 until a year ago. He now works part-time for the Rinka Funeral Home. Among his hobbies he has refinished a number of pieces of furniture, and he enjoys crocheting Afghans. She likes to read. Together they go fishing and have traveled to the west coast, Florida and Michigan. They are members of the Senior Citizens.

Among those attending were their attendants Bert Schroeder, Oroville, Calif.; Elton Krahn, Crystal Falls, Mich.; Art Krahn, Marshfield; Malinda Krahn and Elsie Henseler Steiner, both of Milwaukee; and the flower girls, Selma Krahn Plank, Marshfield, and Lorena Vanderhoof Gerhke, Spencer. Also attending were their two children and families, Verland of Monroe Center, Ill., and Ronnie, Indianola, Ia. There are four grandchildren.

Twenty-five attended the family dinner served at the American Legion Hall. Approximately 150 guests attended the open house.
