Flugel, George W. (20 February 1897 – 23 October 1981) With Flag
George W. Fluegel, a former Neillsville resident, passed away on October 23, in
a Rockford, Illinois, hospital. He was 84.
He was born on February 20, 1897, in Rock Island, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. John
Fluegel. During his life he lived in the Neillsville and Wisconsin Rapids areas
prior to spending his last 30 years in Rockford.
On June 15, 1921, he married Helen Jacobson in Wisconsin Rapids ceremonies. He
retired in 1962, after a career as a tool and die maker with Elco Tool Company.
He was a World War I Veteran, serving in the army. He was also a member of the
United Methodist Church and a Phoenix, Arizona, American Legion post.
Survivors include, besides his wife, two daughters, Priscilla Martin and Jean
Nathan, both of Rockford; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a
brother, Arthur Gehre, Nekoosa; a sister, Bernice Hiles, Pittsville; and
numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a
brother and a sister.
Funeral services were held on October 26 from a Rockford funeral home with Dr.
Bruce Breneman, pastor of Court Street United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial was made in a Rockford cemetery.
