Haas, Linda M. (26 May 1974)
On Sunday morning, May 26, 1974 at the 10:30 am. Church service at Zion Lutheran
Church, Colby, Linda M. Haas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Haas, Route 1,
Colby, was given in marriage by her father to James Harry Blane, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Otho Blane, Waterloo, Iowa.
The bridal party was escorted to the spring flower covered altar by Seminarian
Parker Knoll and Pastor Golz. Parker Knoll assisted Pastor Golz, who carried a
banner on which was the theme of the service. The banner was made by the bride
and was inscribed with the words from First Corinthians 1:13, “The Greatest of
These is Love.”
The bridal gown of organza over taffeta and Venice lace was in empire styling
with chapel train. A pearl and flower headpiece secured the bride’s elbow length
veil and her Colonial bouquet was composed of pink blush with pink and white
roses and white carnations.
Mrs. Phillip Dzick, Madison, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Miss
Jan Gasch, Eau Claire, was bridesmaid. Their white dotted Swiss dresses were
flocked with pink rosebuds. Picture hats and Dolly Madison bouquets of pink
roses and white carnations completed their attired.
Duties of best man were performed by Seminarian Dennis Bauer, St. Louis. He was
assisted by Robert Blane, Waterloo, brother of the groom.
Organist was a cousin of the bride, Kathy Schultz, as Rebecca Pankow, soloist,
sang “Let the People Praise the Lord.”
After the services a dinner was served to about 150 guests in the church hall.
Later a reception was held in the church hall.
The new Mrs. Blane graduated in 1969 from Colby High School, and in 1973 from
Concordia College, St. Paul, with a B.A. in Elementary Education. In the fall
she will teach at Our Savior Lutheran School in St. Louis.
Her husband completed Waterloo East High School in 1969, and attended Concordia
College in St. Paul for two years., graduating from Concordia Senior College in
Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1973, and is presently a two years student in Concordia
Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri.
After a camping trip through Wisconsin and Iowa, the couple will reside at 7480
Hazel Street, Maplewood, Missouri 63143.
