Father Francis Rushman witnessed the exchange of marriage vows Wednesday, June
12, 1974 at 1L30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, when Ervin C. Hackel
claimed as his bride, Loretta Jean Gumz.
Mrs. Alois Gabriel provided organ accompaniment for the your people choir, who
sang during the ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gumz, Route 1, Colby, and Mr. and
Mrs. William A. Hackel, Colby.
Attending the bride were Mrs. Sharon Hackel, matron of honor, sister-in-law of
the groom, and bridesmaids were Judy Gumz, sister of the bride, Dawn Will, all
of Colby, and Sue Neuenfeldt, Dorchester, friends of the bride.
They wore empire waist gowns, short sleeves, the A-line skirt featured a
gathered flounce at the hemline.
Kenneth Hackel, Colby, served his brother as best man and groomsmen were Ralph
Hackel, brother of the groom, Wauasu, and Jim Weber and Larry Hass, friends of
the groom, both of Colby. Ushers were Ronald Hackel, Abbotsford, and Chuck
Venzke, Wausau.
The bride appears in an empire waist gown, the bodice featuring a sweetheart
neckline with sheer insert and lace appliques, and lace insert repeated in the
flounce at the hemline. She wore a floor length veil featuring a lace trimmed
edge, and carried a bouquet of red roses and white carnations.
The groom’s attendants wore tuxedos with white jackets.
A reception, dinner and dance were held at Trianon Ballroom following the
ceremony.
After a wedding trip to Denver, Colorado, the couple will reside at Route 2,
Colby, where the groom is engaged in farming.
