Village maintenance men and Lions Club members completed the setting up of new
playground equipment last week in Dorchester Recreational Park. A “jungle gym,”
rocking horse” and “Merry-go-round” were purchased from funds from “Dorchester
Days Stunt Night.”
Since 1970 a group of area homemakers clubs and a senior citizens club have
sponsored “stunt night” during the annual Dorchester Days. A portion of their
proceeds had been earmarked for playground equipment. The culmination of this
project finally arrived when footings were poured recently, and the equipment
assemble at the park.
Homemakers clubs participating were Green Acres, Good Neighbors, Hilton,
Bruckerville, Clovernook, Lucky 13 and the Dorchester Senior Citizens.
Dorchester Recreational Park was created in 1968 when 45 acres of idle land east
of the village limits was purchase. A 15 acre lake bed was excavated and a dam
constructed. Located on the ground is a close shelter house, including
lavatories and changing rooms for bathers, an open shelter house, ball diamond,
picnic tables and a swimming pool. The park is under the control if the
non-profit Dorchester Park Corporation.
