Bucknell, Bertha A. (18 March 1933 – 28 July 2022)

Bertha A. Bucknell, 89, of Marshfield, passed away on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at home.

She was born on Mach 18, 1933, in Curtiss, to the late Irvin and Rosalind (Wild) Burnsee. She grew up on the family farm and attended local schools. In 1953, she married Hanford Bucknell in the Town of Halloway, and the couple moved to Marshfield.

Bertha worked at Pauly Mueller Café, then worked at Roddis until 1955. She later returned to work in 1966 to Weyerhauser (now Marshfield Doors/Masonite) for 25 years. While employed at Weyerhauser, she was the financial secretary for 12 years.

Her hobbies and interests included baking cakes and cake decorating (even making wedding cakes), painting ceramics, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and other crafts. She was famous for her Cream Horns.

After retirement, she was a volunteer for St. Joseph’s Hospital at Chippewa Falls, making countless baby hats and baby Christmas stockings to wrap newborns in. Her retirement years were spent at Bob Lake in Cornell, Wisconsin – from 1991 until 2016.

Bertha is survived by her children, Bruce Bucknell of Marshfield, Judy (Harlan Nielsen) Meyer of Marshfield, and John (Shelly) Bucknell of Chippewa Falls; her grandchildren, John (Mary) Meyer of Cornell, and Jaime (Wesley) Stephens of Marshfield. She is further survived by her siblings, Marjorie Thorne of Casa Grande, Arizona, John (Mary) Klovning of Rockford, Illinois, Esther (Jerry) Hill of Elkhart Lake, and Jane (late husband, Ray) Poole of Kennesaw, Georgia.

In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her husband, Hanford Bucknell; sister, Ruth Burnsee; son-in-law, Jeff Meyer; and step-father, Roy Klovning.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Rev. Andrew Belt will officiate. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memory Gardens at a later date.

The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who assisted in the care of Bertha.
