Maguire, Irma (8 February 1909 – 26 November 1981)
A Neillsville native, Irma (Woelffer) Maguire, passed away in Spartanburg, S.C
., on November 26 after six months of illness. The deceased was born in
Neillsville on February 8, 1909, to Victor and Nina (Hommel) Woelffer. She was
educated in Neillsville and graduated from a teacher training course. She later
attended Eau Claire Teachers College. She taught in Clark County schools for
several years and then moved to Milwaukee.
On July 3, 1937, she married Kenneth Maguire of Campus, Ill. The couple lived in
Illinois, where her husband was a civil engineer. In later years, they moved to
many places in the world while he was with the U.S. Army. Col. Maguire died in
1966; at that time the couple was living in Alaska. Mrs. Maguire then moved to
Urbana, Ill., where she was a house mother for a sorority until recent years.
Surviving her are two sons, John of Las Vegas, Nev., and James of Spartanburg;
four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. A.C. Covell of Neillsville and Mrs. R. E.
Lind of Omaha, Neb.
Mrs. Maguire’s burial will be made in Arlington National Cemetery, near
Washington, D.C., where her husband is also buried.
