Cadet Larry W. Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Schmidt, Rt. 1, Colby, and
a member of the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, Army Reserve Officers
Training Corps, was one of more than 8,000 college cadets from 290 colleges and
universities across the country to attend summer camp at five active Army
installations.
Cadet Schmidt attended the six week camp at Fort Riley, Kansas. In addition to
Fort Riley, Cadets also trained at Fort Lewis, Washington, Fort Bragg, North
Carolina, Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Benning, George.
The camps test the cadet’s ROTC classroom knowledge by posing tough mental and
physical challenges. The training was very rigorous and designed to build the
cadet’s confidence and self-discipline.
