A son was born on August 21, 1974 to Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Blasel. He weighed eight pounds, three ounces and was 21 inches long. He was named Daniel Allen.

Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Kittle and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Blasel. Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John Pollock, Colby, and Mrs. Margaret Baumer and Albert Blasel.

On Saturday, July 24, 1976, at one-thirty p.m. Judy Ann Person became the bride of Joseph Michael Szemraj Jr. The wedding ceremony was performed by Rev. R.W. Olson at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Thorp. Judy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Person, Route 2, Thorp. Joe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szemraj, Route 1, Lublin.

The bride appeared before the altar with her father wearing an empire waist chiffon gown featuring a full skirt with a deep lace-edged bottom ruffle. The skirt was strewn with sequin-encrusted lace appliques; sequined lace bands also formed a bib effect on the bodice and the high stand-up collar. The full bishop sleeves ended in lace cuffs. Her cathedral length veil was also edged in lace and held by a crown of sequins and seed pearls. The bridal bouquet was made up of red roses, with pink and white carnations.

Mrs. Glen Vetterkind, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jane Kodl, friend of the bride, Jane and Donna Person, both sisters of the bride. Junior bridesmaids were: Susan Person, sister of the bride, and Susan Szemraj, sister of the groom.

The attendants’ gowns were of taffeta with floral overlay. They had empire waists above a long A-shaped skirt. The halter type bodice featured a deep V-neckline from which extended a floral chiffon caplet. Short Pouff veils attached to open work crowns complemented their dresses.

The matron of honor wore peach, the bridesmaids blue and the junior bridesmaid were in pink.

Their bouquets were of colored carnations to match their dresses, with daisies and hanging love knot ribbons.

Miss Tara Kostick, friend of the bride, was miniature bride. She was dressed identical to the bride. She carried a bouquet of red and white carnations.

Best man was Andy Syryczuk, cousin of the groom. Groomsmen were Glen Vetterkind, brother-in-law to the bride, Michael Ustianowski, friend of the groom, and Gary Grocholski, friend of the bride and groom.

Ring bearer was Mark Person, brother of the bride. The groom and attendants wore white brocade tuxedos with black trim. They wore colored shirts to match their attendant.

Don Johnson, uncle of the bride, sang “The Wedding Son”. Donna Rolland, friend of the bride, sang “Turn Around” and “There’s a Quiet Understanding”.

Ushers were Chuck Szemraj, brother of the groom, and Jeff Person, brother of the bride.

The bride’s mother wore a long pink gown and the groom’s mother wore beige with red lace trim gown. They bother wore corsages of red roses and white carnations.

The reception, dinner and dance wre held at the American Legion Hall in Thorp. There were 300 guests served.

The newlyweds are making their home at Route 2, Thorp.

The Rev. Andrew Kist of Minneapolis officiated at the marriage ceremony of Jane Marie Niznik and Michael James Smelser.

Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, Thorp, was the scene of the marriage, July 24, 1976 at 2:00 p.m.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Niznik, Route 2, Withee.

Parents of the bridegroom are Mrs. Ida Smelser and Mr. James Smelser, Dallas, Texas.

The bride wore a V-neck floor length gown of cotton polyester, trimmed with lace and satin ribbon and buttons. She wore a shoulder length veil with a satin bown and carried a bouquet of red roses and white carnations.

Maid of honor was Pamela Smelser, sister of the groom, Dallas, Texas. Patricia Smelser, Dallas, Texas and Gail Shufelt, Waukesha, were bridesmaids.

They wore floor length off-white gowns of an aqua and gold floral print, complemented with picture hats of aqua with gold ribbons. They each carried a nosegay of aqua tinted carnations and yellow daisies with aqua streamers.

Gregory Smelser, Dallas, Texas, was best man for the bridegroom. Bill Niznik, Withee, and Robert Shufelt, Waukesha, were groomsmen.

Complete the wedding party were ushers, Reggie Grover, Dallas, Texas and John Niznik, Withee.

A dinner and reception were held at the Quonset Hall, Thorp, followed by a dance later that evening.

The newlyweds will reside in Dallas, Texas.

Jeffrey Robert Olson of Box 369, Thorp, has been accepted at Bemidji State University for admission in fall quarter of 1976, according to E. J. Aalberts, director of admissions and records at BSU.

Jeffrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Olson, will join about 975 other new students at Bemidji State for classes beginning September 7, 1976. The university saw a 2.8 percent enrollment boost for 1975-76, bringing the total on-campus figure to 4,177.

Lorenz, Theresa (19 Jun 1976)

Theresa Lorenz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Glowienke, Chicago, became the bride of Frank Horvath Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Horvath, Gilman, on Saturday, June 19, 1976 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Rev. Kasimer Paul performed the two p.m. marriage ceremony.

The bride given in marriage by her uncle, Eugene Zakrzewicz, wore an off white ivory dress with a hood. She carried to white orchids surrounded by yellow Fuji mums and English ivy.

Connie Skrypcjak, cousin of the bride, was matron of honor, and bridesmaids were Andrea Chaplinski, Cindy Mrozik, Rita Niznik and Barbara Zakrzewicz. They wore pink muslin dresses with hoods and carried baskets of pastel colored mums and miniature carnations. Miniature bride was Becky Lorenz, niece of the bride, and miniature groom was Stan Rosiec, nephew of the groom.

Rich Piwoni served as best man for his friend, and groomsmen were Chuck Rademaker, Jerry Franz, Dan Lorenz and Dennis Shewczyk. Ushers were Tom Victory and John Lorenz.

A reception for 300 guests was held at Tom and Jerry’s, Gilman.

Leonard Rather, Augusta, and Alice Stangret, Thorp, were united in marriage July 27th, 1976 at 2 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, in Lublin.

Father Casimer Paul performed the ceremony. The bride’s daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Arch Kubesh were the attendants. A 6 o’clock dinner was held at the Gate-Way at Augusta for the immediate families. At night, a dance and party were held at Rodell. Also, on August 7th a party was given at Bellinger Club for customers, relatives and friends.
