A 9:25 p.m. barn fire at the Stoiber farm, located two and one-half miles northwest of Dorchester, brought trucks from the from the Dorchester and Stetsonville Fire Departments in response on Tuesday, August 27, 1974.

The fire was discovered by two girls who were driving by and they reported it to authorities.

The farm is owned by Alvin Stoiber and operated by his so, Richard. Nobody was home when the blaze started.

The barn, which was completely destroyed, was a 130 by 26 foot L-Shaped structure with a 38 foot addition, which was just built last year. The entire contents of the barn were also destroyed. This included 6,000 bales of hay, several tons of straw, 2,200 bushels of oats and a feed truck.

There were no animals in the barn, but neighbors had to present cows from entering the burning structure.

These is presently no estimate of the loss, but the barn was partially covered by insurance.

The fire trucks hauled water all night and three Dorchester trucks were still supplying water on Wednesday morning.

Robert Meerstein, a member of the Dorchester Fire Department, was injured when he stepped on a spike and was treated at the Medford Clinic.
