Stelter, Fred “Fritz” (P.O. Retiree - 1982)
Recently retiring after over 29 years of service to the U.S. Postal Service was
Fred “Fritz” Stelter.
Stelter, who turned 62 in December, delivered his final load of mail on Monday,
December 29. He worked for the Neillsville Post Office for the past 29 years and
seven months. Stelter has been a regular, daily carrier on the south Neillsville
route for the past 21 years. He served 535 postal patrons.
According to postmaster Benny Urlaub, Stelter has walked at least ten miles a
day on his route, even though he used a jeep for the past several years. Working
an average of 303 days a year, Stelter’s daily strolls added up to 3,030 miles
per year. That adds up to over 60,300 miles in 21 years of service.
“Fritz was an excellent employee,” said Urlaub. “He was very conscientious of
his patrons and his work.”
