Shramek, Charles J. (24 May 1894 – 5 January 1982) With Flag

Funeral services, with military rites, for Charles J. Shramek, 87, who passed away in Neillsville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, afternoon, January 5, were held on Friday afternoon, January 8, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated with burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Shramek was born on May 21, 1894, in Chicago to Charles and Rosalie (Travnicek) Shramek. He received part of his education in Chicago schools and then in Clark County, attending Meadow View School in the Town of Levis. After his education, he farmed with his parents until entering the service during World War I. He was a member of the Neillsville American Legion Post.

After his military time, he worked in Chicago for several years. On June 17, 1919, he married Mary Karela in Knox, Indiana, services. The couple then moved to Clark County, where they farmed in the Towns of Levis and Washburn. In that latter township, he farmed until retiring in 1957. He then made his home with his daughters until 1966 when he moved back to the Town of Levis.

Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Lawson of Neillsville and Mrs. Dorothy West of Madison; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Krumpeck, Paris, Illinois; two brothers, William of Bensenville, and Jerry of Des Plaines, Illinois; six grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, May 8, 1917, two brothers, a sister and a twin-sister.

Serving as pallbearers were Ed, Harold, George and Mike Holub, Fred McCarty and James Gall. Deon Spangler offered special music for the funeral service.

Attending the services from out-of-town were Dorothy West and Bonnie West, both of Madison; Mr/Mrs. Richard Lawson & sons, Eau Claire; Mr./Mrs. Brian Moll and Mr./Mrs. Ronald Anderson, of Marshall; Mr./Mrs. Ed Shramek, Alma Center; George Holub, Greenwood; Laurie Johnson, Hixton, Ethel Sparks and Vivian Tague, both of Wis. Rapids and Rica Kernz, Marshfield. Coming from Illinois were Lillian Krumpeck, Peter and William Shramek, Bensenville; (blotch) Shramek, Des Plaines and W.J. Shramek of Villa Park.
