Reyna Romo, student at the Abbotsford Middle School was selected by the Abbotsford Lions Club as the local winner of the Lions International Peace Poster contest. Her Poster was selected for originality, artistic merit and portrayal of the contest theme, “We are all connected”. Reyna’s quote about peace that accompanied her poster was, “When you make peace with yourself, you can make peace with the world.”

Lion Pauline Schiferl, chairperson of the project said she was impressed by the expression and creativity of the students. “It is obvious that these young people have strong ideas about what peace means to them. I’m so proud that we were able to provide them with the opportunity to share their vision.”

Reyna’s poster was awarded first place at the District 27-C1 Lions competition and advanced to the State Lions competition. At the State level she received third place. Locally, Reyna and her mother, Penny Gumz, were honored at the Abbotsford Lions meeting and dinner where she was presented with a certificate of merit and received a check of twenty five dollars from the Abbotsford Lions Club, $75 from the Lions District 27-C1, and $50 from the state organization.
