Turner, Gene (1 July 1926 – 22 January 1982) With Flag
Members of the Turner family and others from the Neillsville area attended the
Tuesday, January 26, funeral services for Gene Turner, 55, of Rockford,
Illinois, who died of a hart attack on January 22.
Turner was born on July 1, 1926, in Chicago to Mr. and Mrs. Grant Turner. He
lived in Rockford for 45 years after leaving the Granton area. On Oct. 15, 1955,
he married Vana R. Anderson in Rockford ceremonies. He was employed by Spector
Freight Company for 26 years; was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from
1940 to 1955; and he was a partner in G&H Motors in Rockford. He was a member of
the Teamsters.
Surviving him, besides his wife, is a daughter, Mrs. Brian (Gail) Harrison,
Rockford; his mother Mrs. Eskil (Arlene) Erickson, Loves Park, Ill., a sister,
Mrs. Jack (Beverly) Eggleston, Stanton, Calif; an aunt, Mrs. Esther Schmidtke,
Neillsville, plus several other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the Fred Olson Mortuary in Rockford with the
Rev. Lareau Lindquist of the First Evangelical Free Church officiating. Burial
was made in Rockford’s Scandinavian Cemetery.
Attending the services from the Neillsville area were Mr. and Mrs. Orville
Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Turner, Harriet Triska, Larry Turner, Donald Turner
and Milton Schoenfeld.
