The Greenwood Athletic Department and Booster Club took the time recently to
recognize an individual who has done much to support Greenwood Athletics.
Danny Bravener decided to retire from the Greenwood High School Booster Club
after spending the last 21 years as president. Before the Aug. 26 varsity
football game at Greenwood, he received a bench made from old bleacher boards
taken from the west gym and was thanked by his fellow club members for his
dedication and years of service to Greenwood athletics.
Bravener has spent countless hours preparing for fundraisers and events, such as
a tailgate party and the spring alumni tournament. All of these events greatly
benefit student athletes.
“If you have been to any Greenwood basketball games, home or away, boys or
girls, in the last 20 years, you would have seen Danny behind the score table
with his Diet Cokes, keeping book and additional stats that the coaches find so
valuable,” stated an announcement read from the press box at the game.
Bravener got his start in 2000 with the girls basketball team. As they made it
to state that year, he became the good luck charm, and the team hasn’t let him
go since.
Bravener not only has a reserved spot at basketball games, but on the football
field as well. He can still be seen along the sidelines and keeping stats for
the game, like he has since former head coach Bob Lenz’s era, doing it the old
school way with paper and pencil.
“He will continue his job well after the game and be the last one to leave the
building, making sure the media gets the information from his favorite fax
machine,” read the announcement.
“May you continue for another 20 years on the sidelines and behind the scores
table. Your reliability and constant presence is greatly appreciated by all.”
