Christie, Richard Lester, “Dick” (9 February 1940 – 17 September 2022) With Flag
At 6:50 P.M. on September 17, 2022, the Lord took an American hero home. He may
not have been of world renown, but he was a hero, nonetheless. Surrounded by his
family, he quietly slipped away. He walks at Jesus’s side in peace and joy,
greeted by all our loved ones that have gone before.
On February 9, 1940, in Neillsville, Richard “Dick” Lester Christie was born to
Eugene Samuel and Eva Sophia Kalkofen Christie. He had two siblings, Kenneth and
Larry. He is survived by Kenneth.
During high school, Richard served in the US Army Reserve. Following that, he
completed a tour in the US Air Force. It wasn’t until the end of his tour that
he discovered his career of choice, the US Navy Sea Bees where he trained to
become an electrician like his father before him. Richard retired after over
twenty-two years of military service in September 1978. After his military
career, Richard worked for the Union Pacific Railroad until he retired from it
as well. Richard was a highly decorated, disabled veteran who served his nation
with distinction.
On November 4, 1961, in Elko, Nevada Richard married Norma “Kay” Faught. Richard
and Norma were married fifty-nine years before she preceded him in death. They
were preceded in death by their son, Richard Jr. They are survived by their
daughters, Eva Jean and Ella Kay. Also surviving them are their grandchildren,
Steffan, Tamyra, Kirsten, William, Kelly, Tony, Joseph, and Travis. Their
great-grandchildren Alyssa, Alissa, (yes there are two) Alexis, Claire, Natalie,
William Jr., Ashleigh, Brian, Gemma, and Everlee will have fleeting memories of
the grandpa who loved them all. They were preceded in death by William’s eldest,
Khloe.
A memorial service will be held for Richard Christie from 1:00-4:30 p.m. on
October 3rd at Strike Time Lanes in Neillsville. Following the services, a
picnic will be held at The Highground Veterans Memorial Park.
