Martens, Frieda H. (24 October 1892 – 4 April 1982)

Funeral services were to be held this afternoon (Thursday, April 8) from the Gesche Funeral Home for Frieda H. Martens, 89, who passed away on Sunday, April 4, in the Neillsville Memorial Home. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ is to officiate at the 2:30 p.m. service with burial to be made in the Town of Mentor Cemetery. (Visitation hours at the funeral home were set from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, and on Thursday morning until time of service.)

The deceased was born on October 24, 1892, in Globe to Bruno and Emelie (Schultz) Henchen. She received her education in Globe area schools and then worked as a seamstress. On December 7, 1921, she married John F. Martens in Neillsville ceremonies. The couple made their home in the Neillsville area except for a few retirement yeas spent in Humbird. She had been a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home for the past two years.

Surviving her is a son, Donald, St. Maries, Idaho; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Charlotte) Gress, of Neillsville and Mrs. Isabelle Wilson of Milwaukee; two sisters, Clara Henchen of Neillsville and Mrs. Elsie Turenne of Thorp; a brother, Ervin Henchen, Princeton, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (February 10, 1980), a grandson and three brothers.
