Eisberner, Humbird DNR Firefighter (Killed - 1982)
A rural Humbird man died last Saturday as the result of fighting a woodlands
fire in Eau Claire County. Dead was Donald L. Eisberner, 48, a Department of
Natural Resources firefighter.
Eisberner, who was based out of the Fairchild ranger station, was one of first
DNR firefighters to arrive at the scene of a blaze which claimed more than 150
acres of Eau Claire County forest six miles north of Augusta along the north
branch of the Eau Claire River.
According to David Weitz, DNR public information officer from Eau Claire,
Eisberner died of burns. Eisberner was a tractor-plow operator and had been with
the DMR for 30 years. A complete obituary for Eisberner can be found in the “On
Record” section of this newspaper.
The Eau Claire County fire was one of many reported in west central Wisconsin
this past week as warm, dry winds made woodlands susceptible to fires. Major
fires were reported south of Cataract, north of Tomah and three miles south of
Merrillan.
