Eisberner, Donald LaVerne (4 June 1933 – 24 April 1982)

Funeral services for Donald LaVerne Eisberner, 48, of Rt. 1 Humbird, were held on Wednesday morning, April 28, from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church-Fairview, for Eisberner, a DNR firefighter, who died Saturday afternoon, April 24, as a result of fighting a rural Augusta blaze. The Rev. Joseph Henseler of St. Mary’s in Neillsville officiated. Burial was made at St. Joseph’s parish cemetery. The Anderson Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.

The deceased was born on June 4, 1933, near Fairchild to Ed and Helen (Matysik) Eisberner. He attended grade and high school in Humbird, graduating from Fairchild High School. On February 1, 1954, he married Theresa O’Leary in Beloit ceremonies. The couple made Humbird their home.

Eisberner was employed for 30 years by the Department of Natural Resources. He also sold holiday trees at an Eau Claire shopping center each Christmas season for 15 years. He was president of the Fairchild Lions Club and vice president of his union and had served as a delegate to a union convention. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a deputy sheriff for Clark County.

Surviving him, besides his wife, are four daughters, D’Ann Kaufman of Fall Creek, Sarah Matti and Christina Collins, both of Humbird and Kathleen Motte of Hudson; three sons, Marcus of Sumner, Wash., and Jonathan and Lucas, both of Humbird; four sisters, Helen Vinton of Eau Claire, Dorothy Henkel of DeSmet, S.D., Gertrude Durst of Neillsville and Elaine Eisberner of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a brother, Ed of Eau Claire. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
