Meyer, Lena (4 Jan 1880 – 5 Nov 1974)
Mrs. Lena Meyer, 94, Colby, died Tuesday afternoon November 5, 1974 at the
Medford Memorial Nursing Home, where she had been a resident for the past ten
years.
Rites were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 8 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, Colby, with the Rev. Francis P. Rushman officiating. Burial was held in
the parish cemetery.
The former Magdalene Holwack was born January 4, 1880 at Kohler and was married
there on May 23, 1905 to William Meyer, who preceded her in death on July 21,
1957.
After their marriage they came to the Colby area and farmed in the town of Hull
until the fall of 1944, when they retired and moved to the city of Colby.
The coupe observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1955.
Mrs. Meyer was a member of St. Mary’s and the Christian Mother’s Society.
Survivors include a son, Ervin, route 1, Colby, a daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Mervina)
Arnoux, Evanston, Illinois; three sisters, Mrs. Celia Firnstahl, Minnesota, Mrs.
Mathilda Lange, Maryland, and Mrs. Clara Stryher, Chicago; four grandchildren
and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and a
sister.
