Strey, Joann Caroline (5 November 1932 – 29 October 2022)
Joann C. Strey, age 89, of Franklin, passed away at Meadowmere Oak Creek in Oak
Creek, on Saturday, October 29, 2022.
Joann Caroline Fricke was born on November 5, 1932, in Loyal, the daughter of
George O. and Phyllis (Kruger) Fricke. She was raised on the family farm, and
received her education in Loyal. Joann was united in marriage to Robert J. Strey
on February 18, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. They rented a farm for
a couple years before moving to Milwaukee where she worked in the cafeteria at
Hamilton High School, at The Fiesta, a car hop in Milwaukee, and finally for GM
Delco Electronics until her retirement. During retirement, they enjoyed
traveling and camping in their motorhome.
She had many interests, but especially enjoyed water skiing, camping,
snowmobiling, and going on motorcycle rides with her husband.
Joann will be missed by her son: Lynn Strey (Gail Szalay) of Greenfield; one
granddaughter: Jennifer (Jason) Schubert of Oak Creek; two great-grandchildren:
Alyssa and Hunter Schubert; one sister: Mary Jean (Gordon) Goehring of Bend, OR;
one stepsister: Donna Pollack of Menomonee Falls; one stepbrother: Robert (LeeAnn)
Gotter of McAllen, TX; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on October 19,
2022; one sister: Jeannine P. Young; her stepmother: Elsie A. Gotter-Fricke; one
stepsister: Darlene Kasper; and one stepbrother: Elmer Gotter.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at
Windfall Cemetery in Granton, WI, with Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiating.
