Tibbett, George F. (26 September 1903 – 16 May 1982)
Funeral services were held on Wednesday morning, May 19, for George F. Tibbett,
78, a Neillsville businessman and former alderman. Tibbett who made his home at
122 East Ninth Street, passed away on Sunday morning, May 16, in St. Joseph’s
Hospital, Marshfield.
Mr, Tibbett was born on September 26, 1903, in Chippewa Falls to William F. and
Sophia (Gehweiler) Tibbett. He received his early education in Chippewa Falls
schools and then attended UJW-Madison. On October 2, 1928, he married Louise
Leland in Eau Claire ceremonies. He then worked in the logging business for
several years.
In 1930, he and his brother Jack, along with their father, purchased an ice and
fuel business in Neillsville. He later managed the Neillsville Warehouse Company
in partnership with Herman North. He also operated a freight delivery business,
which is now run by one of his sons. He served as one time as an alderman for
the City of Neillsville. He was also active for many years in the Neillsville
Men’s Bowling Association and was a 50-year member of the Neillsville Moose
Lodge and an active member of St. Mary’s parish
Surviving him, besides his wife, is a daughter, Mrs. Pat Mrotek, and two sons,
Bruce and Richard, all of Neillsville. He is also survived by fourteen
grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
three brothers, Thomas, William and Jack.
The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church rites with
burial made in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Don Mrotek, Bruce Tibbett,
Gary Zschernitz, James Smagacz, Tim Schrader and Mark Chadwick. The Gesche
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
