Cernik, Anna (15 October 1896 – 22 May 1982)
Czechoslovakian-born and longtime Neillsville area resident Anna Cernik, 95,
passed away in Neillsville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 22.
The deceased (nee Anna Drazdal) was born on October 15, 1896, in Prague. She
received her education in that country, where she married Joseph Cernik. The
couple came to the United States in 1919 and settled in Chicago. After a few
years in Chicago, the couple came to Clark County, making their home in the Town
of Levis. They farmed there until 1949 when they moved into Neillsville. For the
past three years, Mrs. Cernik had been a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home.
Surviving her are two sons, Jerry of Neillsville and Charles of Eugene, Oregon,
and four daughters, Mrs. Sidney (Mary) Kahn of Lake Geneva, Mrs. Rose Sexton of
LaGrange, Ill., Mrs. Harry (Saddie) Roden of Chicago and Mrs. Tillie Arenkiel of
St. Louis Park, Mn.; fourteen grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband (1960), a son Joseph, a brother and a sister.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, May 25, from the Gesche Funeral
Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Joseph Henseler of St. Mary’s Catholic Church
officiated with burial in the Town of Levis Cemetery.
