Mavis, Deanna Leigh (15 May 1982)

The Rev. James Lesczynski officiated at the Saturday early afternoon, May 15, nuptials for Deanna Leigh Mavis and Gregory Joseph Heiman. Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard was the site for the sharing of vows. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Earl Mavis, Rt. 2 Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Francis Heiman, Rt. 4 Neillsville.

Special music for the service was provided by Margaret Gosar and Jana Barr of Kittredge, Colorado.

Serving as maid of honor was Lynette Hayes, a friend of the bride from Bloomington, Illinois. She was joined by Debbie Barr, sister of the bride from Willard; Katie Heiman, the groom’s sister of Madison; and Jeanne Strangfeld, a friend of the couple from Neillsville.

On the groom’s side, Rick Hagen, a friend from Neillsville, was best man. He was joined by Mark Heiman, brother of the groom from Neillsville; Dave Mavis, the bride’s brother of Greenwood, and Jeff Strangfeld, a friend of the couple from Neillsville. Ushering were Jim Barr, the bride’s brother-in-law of Willard, and Tim Henning, a friend of the groom from Neillsville.

Michael Heiman, the groom’s nephew of Neillsville, and Becky Mavis, the bride’s niece of Marengo, Illinois, were ringbearer and flower girl.

The bride chose an Edwardian-style gown with sheer organza, Chantilly lace and seed pearls and featuring a high neckline, bishop sleeves and ruffle-flounced hemline that swept to a chapel-length train. She carried a bouquet of white silk roses, stephanotis and baby’s breath, all adorned with white satin lace streamers. Her attendants wore blue knit gowns trimmed in Venician lace and carried cascading bouquets of blue silk carnations and greens, also adorned with white satin streamers. The groom and his attendants were attired in silver-hued tuxedos.

Following the ceremony, a dinner was served in the parish hall with a dance following at the Loyal American Legion Hall.

Flowers for the wedding were arranged by the bride’s sister, Kathy Montgomery, of Belvidere, Illinois, and the cake was cut and served by Kathy and Ann Heiman, sisters of the groom.

Special guests at the wedding were the bride’s grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Neil Murphy of Marengo and Gladys Bedell of Fairchild.

Prenuptial events included a shower hosted by Ann, Brenda and Katie Heiman; another shower hosted by Kathy Montgomery and Agnes Cleary of Belvidere and a rehearsal dinner at the Wildcat Inn, hosted by the groom’s parents.

After a wedding trip around Wisconsin, the couple are making their home on Rt. 4 Neillsville. The new Mrs. Heiman is a 1980 graduate of Greenwood High School and is employed in the production department of The Clark County Press. Her husband, a 1979 graduate of Neillsville High School and in 1980 from District I Technical Institute of Eau Claire, is self-employed as a farmer.
