Herman Holtz, Abbotsford will celebrate his 89th birthday on Saturday, February
8, 1975. He still leives a pretty active by working full time.
Holtz has lived in Abbotsford since 1948, when he built a feed mill, which still
bears his name. In 1953 he turned the business over to his son, but still works
in the front office, filling out customer slips and waiting on customers.
He was born in 1886 in Kewaunee County in the City of Algoma. In 1907 he married
the former Ida Rusch. He was a farmer for a while before going to Dorchester,
where he was manager of the Dorchester Coop.
He worked there for five years before deciding to go into business for himself.
He then moved to Abbotsford in 1948 and built his own feed mill, which is
located on Spruce Street.
When asked why he prefers working instead of retiring and taking it easy, Holtz
said that he preferred to keep active rather than sit at home.
