Arthur Mellenthin, 75, died about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home on 106 Wisconsin
Street, Spencer.
Services were held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer, with Reverend
David Ault as pastor officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Mellenthin was born March 27, 1899 in the town of Unity, and was married to
the former Edna Miller on June 22, 1921 in Veefkind. She preceded him in death
March 28, 1971.
The couple farmed in the Town of Unity until 1954. They then moved to Spencer,
where he worked for a number of years at Land O’Lakes and Pathfinder before
retiring.
He was an active member of the Willow Brook School Board, and was a member of
St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer, where he had served for a number of
years on the church council.
His second marriage took place September 11 1974 at St. Joh’s Lutheran Church to
the former Frida Sommers. She survives him.
Other survivors include a son, Kenneth, Rt. 1, Spencer; four daughters, Mrs. C.
A. (Phyllis) Simpson, Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Allen (Marilyn) Raisenpillar,
Fremont, California, Mrs. Jack (Theone) Lundquist, Mequon, and Mrs. Porter
(Janice) Cooper, West Allis; a step-son, Marvin Sommer, Unity, a step-daughter,
Mrs. Thomas (Elaine) Reynolds, Dorchester; a brother, Otto, Marshfield; a
sister, Mrs. Anna Schultz, Milwaukee; 22 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were three brothers and three sisters.
