Van Gorden Selected Tops in State & Nation (Art Work - 1982)
Watercolor paintings by Holly Marsh Van Gorden of Chimayo, New Mexico (formerly
of Neillsville) will be displayed at the 1982 Lake Side Festival of Art in
Milwaukee on June 18 to 20.
The 20th annual show is held on the shore of Lake Michigan, adjacent to the
Milwaukee Art Center. The three-day Performing in Visual Art Event is sponsored
by Friends of Art.
Only 30 Wisconsin artists were selected to show in this national festival which
features 180 professional artist and craftsmen. There finalists were juried from
more than 900 entrants.
Van Gorden will show about 30 paintings in the show. She will also be exhibiting
her work at the Midwest Watercolor Society Sixth annual National Juried
Exhibition to be held July 24 through August 29 at a West Bend gallery.
She is currently displaying paintings at several Juried Exhibitions and
Galleries including the Seven State Competition. The Harry Nohr Gallery at
UW-Platteville, the Nicolet Show at the Center Gallery in Madison, and the 14th
annual National Art Show in La Junta, Colorado.
In May at the New Mexico Watercolor Society—La Primavera, Albuquerque, Van
Gorden received the $600 purchase award and an honorable mention.
She just received a certificate of recognition at the juried Western Slope
National Art Exhibition held in Montrose, Colorado.
Her art work is represented by Temple Gallery in Appleton and the Artichoke
Gallery in Albuquerque.
Van Gorden studied painting at the California Institute of the Arts; UW-River
Falls; and UW-Madison where she received double bachelor of arts degrees in
choreography and art education which involves painting, drawing, sculpture and
performance.
She is the daughter of Mrs. Delbert Struble of Neillsville and Richard Van
Gorden, also of Neillsville.
