Approximately 30 Army cadets at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point,
including Burt L. Schauer, Abbotsford, spent last weekend at Fort Carson,
Colorado getting a taste first hand of what his future holds as a military
officer.
The cadets, most of them rather new to military life, were invited to attend a
series of orientation programs on what Army professions and life entail.
We want our cadets to go into the military with their eyes open and this is
done,” said Captain Ted Blasche, one of the ROTC faculty-staff involved in
setting up the orientation.
Emphasis, he said, is on giving as much information as possible to new cadets so
they know exactly what ROTC involves and how it is used to prepare future
officers.
The Stevens Point students, who were joined by several other cadets from St.
Norbert’s College, the UW Center System branch campus in Wausau, and UW-Oshkosh,
traveled in an Army National Guard aircraft. The flight served two purposes: it
fulfilled required flying time for the pilot and provided free transportation
for the cadets.
