Schmitt, Sarah M. (29 September 1897 – 19 June 1982)
A longtime Pine Valley and Grant citizen, Sarah M. Schmitt, 84, passed away in
Neillsville Memorial Home on Saturday morning, June 19.
The deceased was born on September 29, 1897, in Jefferson to David and Katherine
(Hokamp) Hainz. She received her education in that area and then lived in Clark
County with her parents for a short time prior to moving to Chicago and Detroit
where she worked for several years. On October 19, 1926, she married Jacob C.
Schmitt in Neillsville ceremonies.
The couple then farmed in the Town of Pine Valley. On February 9, 1967, Mr.
Schmitt died; Mrs. Schmit then moved to the Town of Grant where she lived until
fourteen months ago when she became a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home. She
was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and its Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Surviving her is a son, LaVerne, Neillsville; a daughter, Mrs. Lourdes Illinski,
Marshfield; a sister, Mrs. Kurt (Leona) Janisch, Morton Grove, Illinois; four
brothers, Frank Hainz and Edward Hainz, both of Neillsville, Lawrence Hainz of
Milwaukee and Otto Hainz of St. Petersburg, Florida; and four grandsons. She was
preceded in death, besides her husband, by two sons, three brothers and a
sister.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday morning, June 22, from St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Neillsville with the Rev. James Lesczynski of Willard’s Holy Family
Parish officiating. Burial was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral
Home was in charge of the arrangements.
