Dr. William R. Thompson has accepted the Superintendent of School position in
the Colby Public Schools and will assume this position July 1, 1975.
Thompson was born in Earl, Wisconsin and attended schools in Superior,
graduating from Superior Central in 1954. He was active in athletics, as well as
other activities. Thompson received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1960 and
Master of Education degree in 1962 from the University of Wisconsin, Superior.
He has also done further graduate work at the University of Minnesota, Duluth
and the University of Wisconsin, Stout. He received his Doctor of Philosophy
degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, Mississippi in
1973.
Thompson has been a teacher, and coach in the Superior Public School for four
years. He has served as an Elementary Principal in Mellen for one year, and
Elementary Supervisor in Cornell for two years.
He has been a School Psychologist, Guidance Coordinator, Coordinator of
Psychological Services, and most recently, Director of Pupil Personnel Services
in the Palm Beach County Schools, West Palm Beach, Florida.
He married the former Julia Ross, who also attended the Superior Public Schools.
Dr. and Mrs. Thompson are the parents of two children: Becky, age 19 is
attending the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Mississippi,
Hattiesburg, Miss., and William Jr. (Hapy), age 13, is presently a seventh grad
student.
Dr. and Mrs. Thompson and family are looking forward to living and participating
in the community.
