Communities in Clark County have fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS) helping the public. Many of these local men and women volunteer and train to be a firefighter or EMS worker. But what happens if they are injured, especially during training?

That is a concern Stacey Fausett of Neillsville is trying to resolve. She organized the Fighting for a Firefighter/EMS fundraiser held Feb. 10 at the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.

This is the first year for the fundraiser. Fausett hopes to raise funds not just to help injured firefighters/EMS workers but also begin a scholarship fund for people going into that profession.

“I have personal experience with a son who had an accident during firefighter training,” said Stacey Fausett.
Her son, Quentin, was injured during training in April 2023.

After spending several weeks helping her son recover, Stacey Fausett came up with the idea to have a fundraiser to help injured firefighters/EMS workers. Then, she began organizing the event in September 2023.

“There’s support from the brotherhood of firefighters,” said Stacey Fausett. “There’s nothing for financial help.”

Stacey Fausett wanted to do something about that.

“There’s the stress factor with finances,” Stacey Fausett said. “There are some families in the same situation as us.”
This is Stacey Fausett’s first time organizing a fundraiser. Although she had help from members of her family, the community and businesses donating, she intends to be involved year-round in this annual fundraiser. She encourages communication with the fire departments in Clark County.

“If anyone is in need, they can apply for a grant,” Stacey Fausett said.

Depending on funds, Stacey Fausett wants to have two scholarships available for the 2024-2025 school year.

“[Students] would write an essay, explaining why they feel they should get a scholarship,” said Stacey Fausett. “It’s also based on academic grades. The amount of the scholarships depends on available funds.”

Stacey Fausett plans on having this fundraiser at the same time annually but at different locations/towns in Clark County. She welcomes ideas and suggestions, donations and volunteers.

The American Legion Post 73 donated the hall for the fundraiser. Members of the Neillsville Fire Department volunteered at the fundraiser.

Stacey Fausett’s son, Quentin, was unable to continue to finish his firefighter training but was able to go to school.
“He wants to do something in law enforcement,” said Stacey Fausett.

For more information about the event or to volunteer or donate, contact Stacey Fausett at 715-650-1569.

The chili cook-off had four participants and many guests who arrived to judge each dish. Drinks, side dishes and desserts were served alongside the main meal.

Methodist Church Holds 24th Annual Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast (2024)

By L.B., reporter

The York Center United Methodist Church in Granton held its 24th annual Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast after church service Feb. 11. The tradition started 24 years ago on Valentine’s Day and has not stopped since.

Brenda Schlinsog was the chairperson of the event. However, she was unable to head the entire event, needing to leave early.

“It’s a church fundraiser,” Lori Rowe said. “We got donations from church members for some of the food items, as well as some donations from Kwik Trip and Festival Foods. The cheese is from Nasonville Dairy and the sausage and other meats are from Hewett’s Meats.

“We pride ourselves on sharing all this good food.”

Members of the church served others by flipping pancakes, making batter, scrambling eggs and helping with other various kitchen tasks. The men in the back made three different kinds of pancake batter: blueberry, potato and buttermilk.
Volunteers also served maple syrup.

Most of the ladies helped with serving food to the guests and other tasks. The room was decorated with pink and red hearts for Valentine’s Day.

“We want to share God’s love with people,” Debora Rowe said.

Members of the church said they enjoyed the meal and were glad to have this time to celebrate their partners and friendships.
