Kim Schmitt, a 1975 graduate of Colby High School, made an elaborate quilt in
Clothing III Class. The quilt was started last summer when Miss Schmitt began to
cut three-inch squares of fabric and sew the squares together in a
color-coordinated pattern. Little money has been invested since all the squares
were cut from scraps left over from other sewing projects. The only purchases
were for backing fabric and a roll of polyester fiberfill. There are 900
individual squares in the quilt, which measures 76 inches square.
Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Mark Schmitt, rural Colby, and her instructor for
the clothing course is Anne Teska.
