One Hundred twenty fathers and sons gathered in St. Mary’s Catholic School
basement on Father’s Day for breakfast served by ladies of the parish following
the 9:30 a.m. mass.
Al Gabriel acted as master of ceremonies following the breakfast and introduced
the speaker, Frank Nikolay, a local attorney. In his prepared remarks, Nikolay
pointed out to the gathering that the finest way in which young men could honor
their fathers, not only on Father’s Day, but on every day of the year, was to
conduct themselves so that the father could say with pride, “That’s my son.”
Nikolay pointed out that to achieve such conduct was only necessary to use the
Ten Commandments and the golden rule as guidelines. He also stressed the need to
be more considerate of our fellow men, but that this would come easily if the
commandments and golden rule were followed on a day-to-day basis.
The door prize was won by Herbert Sauer, and other small prizes were awarded to
those present.
