Schoelzel, Ronald R. (4 February 1937 – 12 December 2022)

Ronald R. Schoelzel Sr., age 85, of Colby, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Marshfield Medical Center.

Ron was born on February 4, 1937, the son of Rudolph and Olivia (Gutenberger) Schoelzel in Colby. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Wiersig on July 21, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. She preceded him death on February 3, 2003.

Ron was a truck driver for 57 years, including 40 years as an owner/operator. He also was a dairy farmer for 12 years. Ron loved playing cards, especially sheepshead, bowling, mowing lawn, camping, boating and traveling. He especially loved his dogs, Casey, Parker and Shoney.

Ron is survived by his four children: Ron (Josie) Schoelzel Jr. of Colby, Rod (Sue) Schoelzel of Mission, TX, Robin (Scott) Froeba of Colby and Randy (Debbie) Schoelzel of Colby; nine grandchildren; Shawn (Mandy) Schoelzel, Eric (Kati) Schoelzel, Shannon (Jake) Hainzlsperger, Kari (Tim) Smazal, Amy Froeba, Sara (Justin) Buelow, Erin Schoelzel, Miranda (Al) Sazama and Ethan Schoelzel; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, Oaklynn and his special friend, Kay. He is further survived by two sisters: Darlene Wachtendonk and Sandy (George “Jim”) Hudak; five sisters-in-law; Alice Schoelzel, Ramona Schoelzel, Janice Schoelzel, Linda Schoelzel and Edith Schoelzel; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth Ann; his grandson, Nicholas; and 18 siblings.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Interment to follow at the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
