Toptine, Julia B. (25 November 1899 – 22 June 1982)
Funeral services for Julia B. Toptine, 92, a resident of Neillsville Memorial
Home for the past nine years, passed away on Tuesday June 22. Funeral services
were held on Friday morning, June 25, from the Gesche Funeral Home in
Neillsville. The Rev. Alvin York of the Greenwood United Church of Christ
officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
On November 25, 1889, the deceased was born in Richland County to Elmer and Lona
(Wanless) Hollenbach. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Clark
County and received her education in the Shortville School and graduated from
Neillsville High School. She then worked in Chippewa Falls for a short time.
On January 29, 1911, she married Newton F. Toptine in Athens ceremonies and the
couple moved to Neillsville where they remained the rest of their lives. Mrs.
Toptine was a seamstress in Neillsville for many years. She was a member of the
United Church of Christ.
Surviving her is a daughter, Mrs. L. Hildegarde Negard, Wickliffe, Ohio; a
sister, Mrs. Lorraine Nichols, Waupaca; a brother, George Hollenbach, Phillips;
and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (July 7, 1967),
a brother and four sisters.
Serving as pallbearers were Gerhardt Scheel, Robert Smukal, Roland Kalsow,
William and Frank Hoffman and Elmer Georgas. Music was offered by May Peters and
Eileen Zank.
Attending the services from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. George Hollenbach,
Phillips; Lorraine Nichols, Waupaca; Anne Brecke and Marge Rathmeier, both of
Stetsonville; Mrs. Glenn Hostrawser and Mrs. Elwood Quick, both of Black River
Falls; and Mr. and Mrs. John Taylor, Whitehall.
