McDonald hamburgers, corn flakes, and ice cream are common foods to Wisconsin folks, but Herr and Frau Otto Klemm find those foods to be treats.

The Klemms from Wiesbaden, Germany, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Albert Braun, Dorchester.

Braun and Klemm became friends when Braun was teaching at Wiesbaden dependents school, where Klemm was “hausmeister” or chief custodian.

When the Klemm s finally made the decision to visit America, Frau Klemm felt some anxieties over the fact she might not be able to communicate with Americans because of the language. However, upon arrival all fears melted away. She has met people who can speak German and she’s learning the American language.

Both Klemms are overwhelmed with the friendliness and warmth they have been greeted with, and find it difficult to express what is in their hearts about the people and places they have visited.

Herr Klemm said everyday they see and learn something new. They have visited a mink far, cheese factory, resort, and have seen their first camper.

The couple was amazed at the wide open spaces, lakes and rivers. Frau Klemm was in awe when she had the opportunity to swim in a lake all by herself. In the Klemm’s community there are three swimming pools and on weekends there are three to four hundred people at each one.

According to the Klemms, there is much public transportation in Germany and families aren’t in need of cars as in Wisconsin, where people have to travel great distances to get from one place to another.

The Brauns and Klemms have just returned from a four day vacation in Minnesota. They are planning a trip to Wisconsin Dells and will also spend several days in Milwaukee with mutual friends.

Herr and Frau Klemm will returned home August 3. They said they are happy they came to America and will take many beautiful memories home with them.
