Clark Fleege and Burt Schauer, both of Abbotsford, are preparing for careers in
the use, management and conservation or natural resources. They completed on of
the toughest assignments in their academic careers.
They participated in a rigorous summer natural resources camp which is sponsored
by the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point., their alma mater.
Each year, UW-Stevens Point requires its men and women who are natural resources
majors to undergo six weeks of intensive “in field” preparation at a UW system
environmental study center near Clam Lake in the far northern reaches of the
state.
They participated this summer in one of two six-week session, which involve
extensive use of the Chequamegon National Forest. “When they finish they should
be able to inventory every aspect of the out-of-doors,” said Dr. James Newman,
assistant Dean of the UW Stevens Point College of Natural Resources.
Similar camps have been sponsored by the University for the past 20 years, and
focus on aspects of forestry, wildlife resource management, soil science and
water science, which are the five main study areas in the natural resources
program.
They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Fleege and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schauer,
all of Abbotsford.
