Smart, Benjamin (13 Mar 1893 – 12 Aug 1975)
Benjamin Smart, 82, a dormer Colby resident, died August 12, 1975 in Milwaukee.
Services were held August 15 at Colby United Methodist Church. The Rev. Raymond
Fleming officiated, and burial was held in Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harold Ruppert, Harry Svoboda, Richard Goldschmidt, Sr.,
Gerhart Reidel, Morris, Mantor and Edwin Grauman.
Mrs. Dave Colby and Marcia Arnold were soloists and Mrs. Robert Gosse was the
organist.
Mr. Smart was born in Colby March 13, 1893. He married Anna Schulz, who preceded
him in death.
He farmed in the Colby area, then moved to Milwaukee, where he worked in the
Veterans Administration Hospital until retirement. He was a veteran of World War
I and a member of the General Pearsoll Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Wood.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Erma Mielke, Wausau, and Mrs. Walter
(Norma) Schillinger, Edgar; a son, Lee, Dorchester; three sisters, Mrs. Walter
(Edith) Wurthmann, Wausau, Mrs. Michael (Evelyn) Nehring, Rothschild, and Mrs.
Ruth Loughead, Kenosha; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
