Mrs. Barbara Gaulke, reading specialist for the Owen-Withee Schools, attended
the first session of a 10-day leadership training seminar. This was sponsored by
the Right to Read Effort from September 21 – 23, 1975 at Stevens Point.
Forty Wisconsin districts were represented and will participate in workshops and
drive-in seminars located throughout the state this coming year.
The Wisconsin Right to Read Effort is devised to aid school systems in
identifying need and developing strategies and solutions that can be implemented
on a long range, continuing basis to effect change in reading and basic literacy
instruction.
It will also assist school districts in meeting the requirements for two of the
Chapter 90 Standards: (K-3 Reading and In-service).
The major thrust is to increase the school’s abilities to identify needs,
marshal resources, and mount their own future programs of improvement.
