A two-story barn owned by Bryce Luchterhand, Route 1, Unity, was destroyed by
fire on November 20, 1975. All the hay, straw and 3,500 bushels of oats burned
in the fire. The barn was being readied for 30 head of heifers.
The Colby Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire call about 1:30 p.m.
Fire fighters watered down adjacent buildings to prevent them from catching
fire. Fire Chief Galen Reinhart said the cause of the fire was unknown and the
barn was a complete loss.
