Radlinger, Jerome L. “Jerry” (25 January 1927 – 31 December 2022) With Flag

Jerome “Jerry” L. Radlinger, age 95, of Dorchester, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022, his home surrounded by his loving family under the tender care of Hope Hospice.

Jerry was born on January 25, 1927, the son of Walter and Clara (Weinfurter) Radlinger in Marshfield. He joined the US Navy on June 5, 1944, and had basic training at Great Lakes Naval Base in IL. After boot camp, Jerry was sent to a submarine base in San Diego, CA for three weeks. From there, he was sent to the Marine Camp Eliot for two more months of extra training and then to Pearl Harbor. Jerry was assigned to the USS Hancock CV-19 as a seaman and worked in storekeeping. He participated in all the WWII battles in which the ship was engaged. Jerry was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with seven stars, American Area Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal with two stars, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. He was discharged as Petty Officer 2C on June 4, 1946.

On March 13, 1948, Jerry was united in marriage to Betty Jane Albrecht in Neillsville. He owned several car garages, including Radlinger Chevrolet in Dorchester, which he purchased in 1955. Jerry also worked as a car salesman, retiring at age 77.

Jerry was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He was a founding and member of the Dorchester Lions and served as International Director from 1971-73 traveling all over the world. Jerry was also a member of the Dorchester American Legion Post #517, Colby VFW Post #2227 and the Elks Lodge in Marshfield. He was also an original investor in Phillips Plastics. Jerry enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and going to the casino. He especially loved and cherished his family.

Jerry is survived by his wife of almost 75 years, Betty Jane; his daughter, Julene (James) Mueller of Phillips; two grandchildren: Kirk (Debby) Cwikla of Medford and Amber (Scott) Von Seggern of Phillips; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers: Charles Radlinger of Spring Green and Wayne (June) Radlinger of Winter; other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Troy Cwikla; his brother, Robert; two sisters: Betty Gaulke and Claudine Blum Ham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester. Interment to follow at the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Dorchester American Legion Post #517. Father Timothy Oudenhoven will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.
