Seelow, William A. Sr. (31 March 1896 – 20 July 1982) With Flag
Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, July 24, for William A.
Seelow, Sr. The Rev. Gary Clark officiated at the Neillsville United Church of
Christ service with burial made in the Town of Pine Valley Cemetery. The Gesche
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Seelow, 86, of 607 West Fourth St., Neillsville, passed away at his home on
Tuesday, July 20.
He was born to Fredrick and Matilda (Dux) Seelow on March 21, 1896, in the Town
of Pine Valley. He received his education in rural schools and then worked in
Madison until entering the U.S. Army in July 1918, serving until September of
1919. On June 21, 1921, he married Sarah Pedder in Minneapolis ceremonies; the
couple then farmed in the Towns of York and Pine Valley for many years. He was
also a milk hauler during this time. In 1954, he retired from farming and the
couple moved to Milwaukee where he worked until 1964. They moved back to
Neillsville at that time.
Surviving him are six daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Lila) Burr, Mrs. Leon (June)
Schnabel and Mrs. Herman (Berdella) Carl, all of Neillsville, Mrs. Larry (Cleone)
Zink of Cudahy, Mrs. Richard (Janet) Harrington of Milwaukee and Mrs. Terry
(Beverly) Snyder of Marietta, Ga; and three sons, Russell and Frederick both of
Neillsville, and William, Jr., Tucson, Az. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs.
Anna Dahnert and Mrs. Edith Trogner, both of Neillsville; a half-sister, Mrs.
Esther Kerrigan, Chicago, 29 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife (July 11, 1973); a son, Kenneth; a
daughter, Donna Marie; and one grandchild.
He was a member of the Neillsville United Church of Christ and the
Haugen-Richmond American Legion post.
Serving as pallbearers for the funeral, were all grandsons of the deceased,
Robert and Gary Zink, Roger Carl, Michael, Richard and Thomas Seelow, Mark
Harrington and Jeff Snyder. Other grandsons served as honorary pallbearers,
Special music at the service was offered by Lori Anding and Deon Spangler.
Attending the service from out-of-town were Mr/Mrs. Kenneth Burr, Marshfield;
Mr./Mrs. Donald Schnabel & daughter, Mr./Mrs. Dennis Meyer & family, Mr./Mrs.
Daniel Zink and Mr./Mrs. Larry Zink & family, all of Cudahy; Gary Zink, Mr./Mrs.
Eugene Seelow & family and Mr./Mrs. Richard Harrington & sons, all of Milwaukee;
Mr./Mrs. Jeff Snyder and Mr./Mrs. Terry Snyder & family, all of Marietta, Ga;
and William Seelow of Tucson, Az
Joining them were Robert Zink, Hanau, Germany; Mr./Mrs. Dick Maffett, Donna, Tx.
Mr./Mrs. John Trogner, Stoughton; Mr./Mrs. Kenneth Kirn & Family, Elkhorn;
Mr./Mrs. Richard Seelow & family, Oak Creek; Mr./Mrs. John Ford, Humbird; Mr./Mrs,
Frederick Seelow & family, New Brighton, Mn; Bell Mazola, Fairchild; Linda
