Swanson, Harry L. (2 July 1904 – 22 July 1982)
A former grocery store and filling station owner in Neillsville, Harry L.
Swanson, age 78, passed away in a La Crosse nursing home on July 22.
Swanson was born on July 2, 1904, in DeKalb County, Illinois, to August and
Jenny Swanson. Prior to moving to La Crosse in 1942, Swanson owned a grocery
store and gas station in Neillsville. From 1950 to 1962, he owned a hardware
store in La Crosse.
Swanson was married twice. His first wife, Rose Schoenherr, passed away in 1962.
In 1963, he married Agnes Dahlgren in Nashua, Iowa, ceremonies.
He was a member of the Brickmakers Union and a member and director for over 30
years of Badger State Sportsmen’s Club.
Surviving him, besides his second wife, are two sons, Melvin of La Crosse and
Dale of Onalaska; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Emma) Stiemke of Tomah and Mrs.
Hulda Simonson of Chicago; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death,
besides his first wife, by a brother.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 26, from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
in La Crosse with burial made in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Fossum Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
