Humke, Mildred M. “Millie” (2 April 1944 – 24 December 2022)
Mildred M. “Millie” Humke, age 78, of Greenwood, passed away at Clark County
Rehab & Living Center, in Owen, on Saturday, December 24, 2022, after a
courageous battle with Alzheimer's and dementia.
Mildred Marie Denk was born on April 2, 1944, to Gerald W. and Anna J. (Lindner)
Denk in Greenwood. One of nine children, Mildred helped her parents with the
farm and worked as a nanny in the Chicago area. After graduating from Greenwood
High School, she went on to Madison to study nursing. When she finished her
nursing studies, Millie took great pride in working as a nurse at Marshfield
Hospital. She married her high school sweet heart, Dennis I. Humke, on January
4, 1967, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Greenwood. After the birth of their
daughter, Michelle, Millie chose to stay home, raising her five children as a
full-time mom.
Her great loves were her faith, her family, and especially her grandchildren.
Millie also enjoyed bowling, attending her children's activities, baking, was an
avid Badger, Packer and Brewer fan and was always welcoming....everyone was
family.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis, of Greenwood; her son: Michael (Lisa) of
Dodgeville; three daughters: Michelle (Andrew) Bussen of Waunakee, Heather (Dan)
Humphrey of Madison, and Rachel (Ben) Topercer of Bristol; her son-in-law:
Matthew Berge of Valders, seven grandchildren: Brianna, Caroline, Joshua, Reese,
Otis, Ryan, and Avery; three sisters: Corrine (Eldon) Liebzeit of Waupaca,
Janice “Janey” Brom of Greenwood, and Alice “Ally” Karavakis of Waupaca; one
brother: Gerald “Gerry” (Mary) Denk of Crystal Lake, IL; one brother-in-law: Tom
Annen of Crystal Lake, IL; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter: Jennifer Berge; two
brothers: Allen and Romaine Denk; and two sisters: Rosemary Barr and Caroline
Annen.
Her family would like to thank all family and friends, and the staff at Clark
County Rehab & Living Center and ProMedica Hospice for their care, kindness and
support of mom and our family
