Staffon, Rodger “Red” (22 February 1934 – 8 January 2023)
Rodger “Red” Staffon, a long-time Hatfield resident, passed away peacefully at
his home on January 8, 2023, at the age of 88.
Red was born in Alma Center, on February 22, 1934, to Ione and Lester Staffon.
Red was married to Joan Matuszak in Neillsville, on December 26, 1959. They
celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past December.
Red was very active in the Hatfield and surrounding community his entire life.
He was instrumental in helping to start the Hatfield Fire Department, where he
served for 35 years; the Hatfield Sanitary Sewer District, where he served for
31 years; and helped to organize the AMVETS in the Black River Falls area, where
he served as Post Commander.
Red is survived by his wife, Joan; brother, Bernard (Betty Ann) Staffon;
children, Dennis (Sara) Staffon and Scott (Theresa) Staffon; grandchildren, Alex
(Mike) Smith, Jordan (Megan) Staffon and Landen Staffon; three
step-grandchildren, Paige, Preston, and Maria; two great-grandchildren, Noelle
and Mae; and many nieces and nephews.
Red is preceded in death by his parents Ione and Lester Staffon; sister Jean
Stein; brother-in-law Chuck Stein; brother-in-law Bob Matuszak; and
step-grandchild John Ehritt.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 20th at Torgerson’s Funeral Home in
Black River Falls from 4–7 p.m. There will be a social gathering following the
visitation at the Deerview in Hatfield from 8–10 p.m. for those who would like
to join the family and remember Red. A Mass of Christian Burial and accordance
of military honors for Red will be held on Saturday, January 21st at Guardian
Angels Catholic Church in Black River Falls at 11:00 a.m., with visitation being
held prior to the service, starting at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be served in the
basement of the church following the services.
