Approximately 65 students from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point,
embarked Friday for a semester abroad either in Great Britain or the Far East.
They include Linda Krause, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Krause, Route 1,
Curtiss.
Eighteen members are headed for the Far East with Professor Alvin Johnson, a
geographer who has specialized in the study of the land and climate of that part
of the world. Mrs. Johnson will accompany the group as a counselor.
Dr. Dennis Elsenrath, Director of the UW-SP counseling center and a professor in
the psycholorgy department, will be the teacher administrator of the program
headquartered at an international friendship house in suburban London. He will
be joined by Dr. Russell Nelson, professor of history, as teacher-cousnselor,
and Mrs. Elsenrath, who will be a staff assistant.
The group headed from Britain will spend two days in Amsterdam, where among
other things, there will be visits to art galleries as part of humanities study.
Meanwhile, the group enroute to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will be in London for
two days of briefing.
Near the end of the semester next spring, the Britain group will embark on
several weeks of study travel in Europe and the Far East contingent will be
visiting parts of Southeast Asia.
Dr. Pauline Isaacson, Director of International Studies at UW-SP, said she has
arranged for the Far East group to have new contacts and assists from several
universities in Malaysia.
